Accidental repeat of my last posting.

Thank you all for your comments about what your thoughts were on Mustad hooks. When I started tying in 1971, Mustad was the hook of choice back then, probably the only one then. I know that I tied many thousands of flies on Mustad hooks from 1971 to 2000 or so and I have never had a complaint from anyone I sold to about poor quality with the Mustad line. In the past 5 years, I have changed to the Saber line from the Fly Shack and from Wholesale Fly Company and I have found the hooks to be of very good quality and I have never had one fail on me or any that I tied for other anglers. I'm surprised to hear that Mustad still has a good following from tiers. Thanks for your input.

What are your thoughts on Mustad hooks? Do you like or dislike them? That's all I used when I was tying semi-commercial.

When I use the D's stripped quills in my tying, I soak what I need in a tray and I add a few drops of Glycerin in the water to help keep them pliable for tying.

One thing that I forgot to mention is that you will receive so much information from all the members of this forum. I wish it was available to me in the beginning of my tying hobby.

Welcome AZ Falconer. I've been tying since 1972 and one thing that I have learned is that you will always be finding new materials to tie with and you never seem to have the " right" material on hand . Don't be afraid to experiment with all types of materials old or new. My most successful flies that I've tied and fished with were patterns of my own design. Experiment and have fun. Endless opportunities await you.

Hi Mark. Glad to hear that you're up and about. Just go at it easy at first. Seeing your flies and how the Grayling go for them brought back many happy memories for me. My first fish caught on a wet fly was a Grayling. I was sent to Fort Wainwright in October of 1968 and learned to tie when I was there during my first winter. The next spring I had a chance to test out my creations which the Graylings approved of. I've been hooked ever since. Good looking flies.

Dyed muskrat dubbing is a little hard to find but when you are able to find it stock up on whatever colors you can find. There's always a use for them.

I would like to thank everyone for their reply's about muskrat dubbing. Back around 1973 I purchased an ounce of sheared blended muskrat dubbing fur which I still have and use to this day. That ounce of fur seen a lot of flies come from it when I was tying semi-commercial and till this day. It's my favorite for Adams and other patterns, both wet and dry styles that call for this color. This ounce of fur didn't have much guard hair in it and when I use it on a fly I get a very nice smooth tapered body.

How many of you still use Muskrat Dubbing? With all of the newer dubbings on the market, you just don't hear about it being used very much by tiers. What are your Pro's and Con's about muskrat dubbing?

I forgot to mention earlier that I did go back to Spinney and I used for the first time a 1/2 " Thingamabobber and I love the jam feature. I used it with some of my ancient emergers and once the proper depth was determined for my fly the action started.

Good evening Sandan. Thank you for the list of patterns. I'm very familiar with the RS2. I've used the pattern years ago and find it very customizable. I don't think that I'll go lower then a size 18 due to my eyes not being as strong as they were once before. Your suggestions are appreciated.

Hello Sandan. I've been tying for about 50 years and a lot has changed in patterns and materials it's hard to keep up. I'm not strictly old school but I'm always open for new patterns. I'm unable to use a fly rod for long periods of time due medical reasons but I make the best of it. Any insight on the best patterns to use on this area would be great.

Hello flytire. Thank you for the information on patterns for emergers. rs2's are my favorite years ago and so easily adapted to your local waters. I'm gathering info on patterns and the color plate link is ideal. Many thanks for your help.

My Son-in-Law and I went to the spillway at Spinney reservoir here in Colorado and other anglers were fishing emerger patterns and doing quite well. My supply of emergers didn't seem to do well for me there as they have years ago at other waters in Colorado, I know my angling education is lacking about the newest patterns and techniques of emerger fishing especially for Spinney reservoir. I need help with learning about the newer patterns of emergers and the latest ways to fish them as well as well as to what newer materials are used. Any suggestions would be appreciated on newer patterns, types of hooks used and whatever else. Thank you all for your help.

I enjoy tying and use the Stimulator and I know that there are others out there that fish the pattern also. I wanted to ask everyone, what are your favorite Stimulator colors?
