Take a #18 TMC 100 and tie a flymph on it. Note carefully where the hook is engaged by the vice. Now, take it out and look at it under a microscoipe. See the stress cracks? That WILL break at some point. Suer the hook is sharp and it stays sharp, but it does so becasue it is brittle! Do yourself a favor and switch to plain ordinary Partridge or Mustad hooks and use a file to sharpen them and cut the barb down to a reasonable size before tying your fly.

I'm from Germany. No specific region of usage, and no specific notable or celebrity. Only 8 wet and 8 dry. What is the best size for freming? Not to small. The trout flies I mean do not have wire hook eyes or twisted gut eyes like some salmon flies. I thing the name is blind eye hook. Gut snell trout flies like in the book from Mary Orvis Marbury. Hi I know nothing about flies but looking for a gift. Who can make me 16 trout flies to gut casts for framing. Flies they used around 1920's. 8 dry and 8 wet.
