  1. I am certainly no expert, so weigh my comments with that in mind. I don't know Al Beatty personally but have downloaded his instructional videos and appreciate his work with the newbies (me included). He offers a tool kit and a tying station with vise and tool kit. See http://www.btsflyfishing.com/catalog/page4-5.htm The videos are pinned in "Beginners Corner". You might want to watch a couple of them first. I agree with the others, the low end kits with materials are not the way to go.
  2. Been thinking of Bud, Fred and the others in S. LA for days. It is not good right now. Looks like Bud's place is in the NE eye wall at 11:15 EDT. Checked the N.O. radar and looked at his location on Google Maps. Please, everyone stay safe. Terry T.

    Homework

I live in Florida and we must be the poster state for invasive species up to and including the pythons (or was it boas) in the everglades. The University of Fla. IFAS has an absolute ton of information on the subject. Check out these search results: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=i...nvasive+species We have invasive water plants and fish also wihch fits into your long term goal. I realize Fla isn't exactly your home state, but there is a ton of variety and information out there. TxEngr is right, learn to enjoy the math. It can be sort of fun in some cases. Personally I didn't find differential equations much fun, but some of the other stuff was. Especially alternative ways to solve problems. BSEE UM (Coral Gables, 1970). I really like Bud G's idea on the biodegradable bikinis. Can't post those web sites here though! Good luck on the paper, Terry T

    Best place to live?

Lived in West TN for 18 years. No income tax. W. TN wasn't my favorite - too flat and too far from the mountains. Family is from Middle TN and I have always thought it was real pretty there. Never lived there, only visiting family on vacation over the years. (lots of years!!) It does get hot there in the summer. If I am alowed to mention another forum, you might browse around on the South East Fly Fishing Forum for some local knowledge. I hope I did the linky thing right. Brother lives in N. GA (near Blue Ridge) and does fairly well trout fishing there. I moved back to Florida from W. TN after I retired. Miami / Ft. Lauderdale are an acquired taste. I happen to like it but it is expensive and crowded but the fishing is good.
  5. They are all nice but that dragonfly really caught my eye. REALLY neat. What did you use for the body? Terry T
  6. At home it is John B's Fly & LIght Tackle in Stuart. Mostly saltwater but I have also been able to get freshwater supplies there including some for trout. John is always very helpful. http://www.johnbflyshop.com/ I spend a month or two in the Boone / Banner Elk, NC area every year and the shop I visit most there is Foscoe Fishing Company. It is across the street from where we stay in Foscoe. Scott and crew are a great help. http://www.foscoefishing.com/ There are other shops in both areas and they are good also, but these are the two I go in all the time. Doesn't hurt that John is next door to the Pipe and Cigar shop! Terry T

    fish porn

If it is any consolation, I haven’t seen any tarpon in the North Fork of the St. Lucie river (Stuart, Fl area) for a couple of months. They will be back in late April, early May. The guys with the big offshore boats had a good weekend in a sailfish tournament. One boat had 15 releases in one day. Seas were huge (over 6). I too am looking for my late spring trout trip. Terry
  8. Could he have moved? Michael Martinek home 47 Blackmer Rd Sudbury, MA 01776-3103 (978) 443-3872 Found this on a white pages search. Sudbury is about due north of the address you have. Good luck with your library project, Terry
  9. Happy Birthday. This is a good opportunity to thank you for your help in Beginner's Corner and posting the instructional video's there. Have a great day.
  10. Was in Lowes yesterday and saw four of them (I think). Yes, they were around $70. Maybe be on sale Friday??? This was the Lowes in Jensen Beach, FL. I have a Gerstner (from Orvis - Christmas present from wife last year). Love it but the Lowes one looks very similar. I carry it with me to North Carolina when we go trout fishing. Terry T
  11. This is one of my favorites but I don't have it perfected yet. I really appreciate all the info and thanks to binfordw for the original post. One question from here - what is your favorite body dubbing? Color? Thanks, TerryT
  12. Husband Problem A nice, calm and respectable lady went into the pharmacy, right up to the pharmacist, looked straight into his eyes, and said, "I would like to buy some cyanide." The pharmacist asked, "Why in the world do you need cyanide?" The lady replied, "I need it to poison my husband." The pharmacists eyes got big and he exclaimed, "Lord have mercy! I can't give you cyanide to kill your husband! That's against the law! I'll lose my license! They'll throw both of us in jail! All kinds of bad things will happen. Absolutely not! You CANNOT have any cyanide!" The lady reached into her purse and pulled out a picture of her husband in bed with the pharmacist's wife. The pharmacist looked at the picture and replied, "Well now. That's different. You didn't tell me you had a prescription."
  13. Those are really neat. Reminds me of some of the early strobe shots from General Radio (really showing my age here). Would you share how you did it? Terry T
