  1. Every couple of years (7?) we get a cicada "hatch" in this neck of the woods. ( Lehigh Valley Pa.) The trout around here couldn't care less!! I think those big ugly bugs scare them!! ( the first time I saw one on the water,it scared me!!! Sulphernut
  2. I too use a water based cement, and was surprized to find out just how noxious the odors/fumes from this stuff can be!! The only thing I could recommend would be the head-cement reservior by Dyna-King. It has a rubber o-ring in the handle, and as I understand the ads, does not have to be screwed closed between applications. I used to use the little applicator bottles with the "needle' type applicator, but I was forever cleaning out the clogged needles!! BTW...the applicator from DK is pricey ( about $40.00 last time I looked) You might try to ventilate your tying area a little better,or if this is impractical put a small fan somewhere in the room,to keep fumes from gathering around your head. 3. I have tried all of the above methods with varying degrees of sucess...having said that,I will also add that I've had one or two bottles that have resisted ALL of the above methods, and had to be tossed!! Sulphernut
  4. There is a formula for determining what weight line a rod will handle...I read it right here (either here,or on the rod building forum, accessable here) It is a bit of work, but from everything I've read can be relied upon as accurate! Sulphernut
  5. Started fishing with fly-rod and reel seriously, around 1971...Started tying flies several years prior to that!! Fished them for a few years on a spinning rod, behind a clear "bubble"...slayed many a bluegill this way! Sulphernut

    Forum Slow

Generally MUCH faster today than in the past week or two....PM section still rather slow, sending, and REALLY slow deleting accumulated junk,etc....It plods, and plods, and plods, until you hit "refresh",then it seems to wake back up,and do what it was told!! Sulphernut

  10. Greetings all!!! I have a trip booked for this coming fall in Montauk NY.for Stripers,Albies, etc. Having never been on a "guided" trip before,I am unclear on what is customary to tip the guide...??? Are there any guidelines for this? Sulphernut

    epoxy

Z-Poxy or Devcon....Try to get it in separate bottles...the "conjoined"syringes don't dispense equally,in my experience!
  12. If you are serious about getting into this: Everything Al said....Plus....You might want to get yourself some Synthropol, available here: http://www.stoneriveroutfitters.com/cgi-bi...p;preadd=action......Sulphernut

  15. Sound advice from Deeky and "The Tuna"!!! Sulphernut
  16. That's a tough one!! You are between a rock and a hard place for sure!! As far as the a_ _ picture goes,I think the moderators might make an exception! ( especially if it was a good picture!) Good Luck, and have fun anyway!! Sulphernut

    Go Fishing

You grabbed another one of my favorites,Tuna!!! The man really could turn a phrase, couldn't he? It "sorta swweps over me" that that's one of the things we are missing in the world today...Guys who can actually say what they mean, get the point across without bending to political correctness, and still manage some dignity and grace! I've met a handful of fly-fishing personalities over the years. ( and to be sure,The Judge was NOT what we refer to today as a "personality"....it wasn't in his nature!)..Anyway,all of them were OK guys for the most part, but John Voelker is one guy that I am truly sorry I never got to meet! H.Tuna: "The Judgie" has long been my absolute favorite fly-fishing author, when it comes to sheer entertainment!! His way with a phrase is unmatched!! I only own one of his books, but have read many of the others. His passing was a singular loss for the fly fishing community, and the world in general! Suphernut PS: I WILL be taking the Judge's advice this week-end!!
  19. Dave: I am curious....How many years accumulation does this represent?? Sulphernut
  20. OUCH!!!! Sorry to hear this!! Take comfort in the fact that the women in your life are truly "keepers"!! Sulphernut
  21. Howdy,and welcome from Bethlehem!!
  22. FK: I just read something the other day, suggesting NOT putting CA glue in the freeze or fridge,as this tends to develop moisture inside the container, which in turn has an adverse affect on the glue...??? I've never had to do anything special...Just make sure you cap the container tightly after EACH USE. As far as it being waterproof,I have been tying off all of my parachutes with CA this year, and have yet to have one come apart?? Must be waterproof enough!!
  23. The only comments I would have on this fly, have already been made above!! Using a "genetic" hackle will help things, in every way! The real reason I am weighing in here,is to mention once again, that the Griffith's Gnat is one pattern I will not go astream without....any time of year!!! It has saved many a day for me! Sulphernut
  24. VERY glad to hear this!! I recently purchased some GSP but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I have also been rather dissapointed with the hair packers I have used thusfar, whether I bought them,or improved them out of household stuff I had lying around...I always wondered how those "brassie" packers worked....I always thought that I would either bend,or break them...(I pack like a maniac!) As I recall, they are not too expensive to buy from the manufacturer. Thanks for the info!!! Sulphernut
  25. Got to weight in here....I agree with the other respondants here....Mostly because,if my information is correct D H. Thompson has been sold, and is no longer an entity unto itself. I found this out when I inquired about the "docking station" they used to market. It was a real techno-looking tool/spool rack type of thing. I got a pretty prompt response to my e-mail,which informed me that this item had been discontinued, but the e-mail did NOT come from DH Thompson. Also, with regard to what TroutBum pointed out about the jaw problem....I once had a Thompson Model "A" vise do the same thing to me Sulphernut
