  1. Sad and scary but true: While trolling for snook and tarpon the Rio Panuco in Tamaulipas, Mexico, some 40 years ago, I snagged a drowned human corpse!!!!!!!!!! At first we thought it was a submerged tree branch and reversed course to retrieve the lure but it turned out to be a male corpse. The poor guy had drowned 3 days before after falling in the river while zigzagging home drunk. The worst part was dragging the corpse back to the dock and dealing with the local authorities. And the smell!!!!!!!!!!! UGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. It looks real good, man!!!!!!!! Check out the ones I tie:
  3. Xavier... Just two words: SIMPLE!!!!!!!!!!!! NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Thanks for your kind words guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last Saturday I went fishing with some friends to a trout pond and carried with me some of the larger frogs to show off to my friends. Out of a whim, I tied one of the smallest I had with me and cast it out to the trout. As soon as it hit the water it was viciously attacked but... the frog was too big for the fish!!!!!!!! They just started bouncing it around while my friends cheered and I laughed my rocks off!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is why I just started to make some smaller ones for the rainbows. If you are willing to wait for me till Saturday I'll make some time to make a step by step photo shoot of this pattern (Got a good camera but I'm a lousy photographer). By the way, I designed this frog for a fly swap we are conducting down here in Mexico in our Fishing Forum. The last head count gave us almost 10,000 members from Latin America, Spain and some USA Spanish speaking members. mswaterfowler: It's not "a foamy", it's "foamy"!!!!!!! Closed cell foam (in 8 1/2 x 11" sheets) is used for arts & crafts and comes in a great array of colors and at least two thicknesses that I know of.
  5. After a looooong time of just lurking around this fabulous forum, I want to share this new fly I designed to catch unwary bass down here in Mexican waters. Hope you guys like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The one in the photo was made using a 4/0 salmon hook but have made a lot more using way smaller hooks (#10's and #8's). Still have to try the smaller sizes for rainbow trout in ponds near home. Bet they will be killers!!!!!!!
  6. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by Carlos Marti: Charlie Frog
  7. Disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: Kudos again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Have you investigated if you can sue these guys??????????? The money would come in handy for more toys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Ray, it will depend on where you are going to stay. It will be a lot better if you hire a guide!!!! Just ask the local Tourist Dept. to help you out. Do not take your tackle with you. Local guides are knowledgeable have everything you'll need. The current rates are around $500.00 per six hour fishing day plus a 15% tip (depending on results). Another option would be hiking on shore till you find a "mud flat" where you could find feeding bonefish or permit. For that kind of fishing you will need lots of time and a 9 - 10 ft. 8wt rod with a good saltwater reel and plenty of backing (bones and permit are hard runners). Hope this will help. Good fishing and have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Merry Xmas to all of you!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you like my small Xmas tree!!!!!!

  15. Xavier!!!!!!!!! I can't open the link to the inspiration!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Here's my 2 cents: Is the line straight behind & above your Dad before he starts his forward cast???????????????? If the line has not straightened behind the caster at the end of the back cast, the line will not acquire the necessary speed (and energy) to straighten up on the forward cast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Try this, stand looking paralel to the shoreline and turn your head towards the line (and leader) at the time you are doing the back cast. Once you see the line straighten up, its time to start the forward movement. Hope this works for you!!!!!!!!
  17. An excellent piece of advice!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. As a temporary solution I would recommend a whole bottle of Jose Cuervo Gold. You drink it and you forget about the problem until next time!!!!!!!!!! Now... seriously, use acetone (nail polish remover in its pure form)!!!!!!!
  19. Living in right by the Gulf Coast in Tampico, Mexico, it was real hard for a youngster to find fly tackle, so... I started using panfish poppers on a cane pole at age 12 to catch pumpkinseeds & other small panfish. Also, I started tying my own poppers with small medication bottle cork stoppers, my Mother's sewing threads and chicken feathers from feather dusters. It was until 1971 tht I bought my first fly rod, reel & line and started teaching myself to use it by reading everything flyfishing related magazine I could get my hands on (Sports Afield, Outdoor Life, Field & Stream) in Mexico City. Today I have dedicated over 35 years to expanding this passion among my friends and neighbors.
  20. It's WHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! White is the absence of color!!!!!!!!!
  21. :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: Final score: Deer 1 - Rich 0 :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: Wise old Mother Nature!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. The male's hairs would be a tad shorter, don't you think? I would prefer the longer ones, and with more "flavor" to boot!!!!! Just remember you can always adjust the length required on the butt side!!!!!!!!!!! :hyst: :hyst: :hyst:
  23. From a male or a female Bigfoot????????? :hyst:
  24. A. K. must be an expert on thanatology!!!!!!! :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst:
  25. Try using heated #14 AWG copper cable!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every single strand (wire) is small and hard enough to pass through the eye of a #34 hook. Just heat it up with a cigarrette lighter and while it is red hot, push it through the eye once the cement is dry. Be sure to hold the wire with small needle nose pliers or tweezers while doing the heating and eye cleaning. A one-inch length of cable will go a long way 'cause it has over 40 strands!!!!!!!!!!!! For larger hooks just twist several strands together before heating.
