  1. a number short sections of mylar tubing of various colors. i tie them in the middle of the section and then fray out both the front and back portions. how to: slide the tubing over the hook, tie it in the middle of the section, wrap the thread forward, pull front strands back and wrap just in front of them so they bend back. then just work my way forward with a new section until the i reach the head. then trim for profile. closely resembles techniques used when spinning deer hair, just dont spin it. that fly has about 8 seperate pieces of mylar tubing tied on p.s. i did wind up trimming that one down more
  2. thank you got some chartreuse and fuschia marabou today so been playing around a little.

  5. trying something new and its a bit of a work in progress. to me the body on this looks a little too fat. i have trimmed it down some but am wondering if i should go further. opinions please on whether or not i should trim this body down more and give it a slimmer profile.
  6. my sister just called it a "mini toilet brush" i think i will stick with the original name
  7. man if that were done in frog colors with big open mouth painted white inside. I think you going to have to make sure your feet are strapped down cuz the fish are going to slam that thing. However i am not a very good caster and would probably need a 20wt to cast that parachute. LOL

    wader sizes

i am guessing this must not be an option, but i would go to a store and try some out. See what size fits, then head back to ebay.
  9. while i was gluing the eyes on a dropped one. i swear i heard it hit the carpet. i looked down and didnt see it so got down on my hands and knees and still couldnt find it. well i know i dropped it. i check all the cuffs and folds and wrinkles on my pant legs. nothing. i check the bottom of my socks. nothing. move the chair, move the table. nothing. ok i am done looking i grab another one, put a dab of CA on it and finish the fly. Now jump ahead 4 hours. I am in bed reading the latest American Angler and after getting about halfway through i decide to call it a night. Close the magazine, reach over to turn out the light, and BANG, there is the missing eye. glued to the plam of my hand. :hyst: i never saw it and never felt it but it must have been there the entire time. when i had gotten down on my hands and knees to look for it i must have put my hand on it first thing :dunno: i never had a chance

  12. never a dull moment out there is there?
  13. i work 2nd shift during the week and dont usually go to bed until 3am or later so on weekends i keep the same schedule. YES you can catch them at that time. i fish very late at night/early morning every weekend in the summer and have no problem catching fish. i do think it is a little more dependant on the moon cycle however as some nights can be pretty slow. it can be tough though sometimes. in my experience fish will turn on and off throughout the course of an overnight, however i think that sometimes an "off" is probably triggered by a passing pike, so be ready. There have been nights when i have given up on the fish and after turning on the boathouse light i see a nice pike hanging by the dock. they usually get annoyed after awhile of me teasing them with my fly and swim away, then i go to bed.

  15. thank you iwas trying a hair technique that I think is called Stirring. take two different colors of deer hair in stacker at same time, stir them up with bodkin and wind up with mottled stack of hair. the tail portion of that fly is a recycle. I had stripped the front half of an existing fly off and just tied in the deer hair.
  16. burns gotta be the worst.had one so bad literally had ice on it 24 hours for 3 days straight. if hand came off the ice while i was asleep or when the ice melted i would wake up and have to get more ice
  17. i kind of had the same type of thoughts when Graham was posting about making houseflies for the BradPitt movie. they needed fake houseflies because they didnt want to harm real houseflies, but what about the birds killed to make the artificial houseflies. that must be OK in their mind. that must mean it is OK for Brad to wear leather shoes on set as long as no cows were actually filmed being harmed. everything we do today has become some sort of double edged sword.
  18. i stick mine in the Beginners Corner
  19. believe me i am the last person on this board you should take any advice from, but to me the balls of hair are just a tad, and i mean only a tad, too big. i think they need to be just a touch smaller for better aesthetics. other than that i think its pretty cool and WAY over my head.
  20. got out of work early today so put my free time to good use....sort of. A couple of Flashabou Streamers with horrible looking heads. i am thinking i tied the flashabou in too far back and wasnt able to make the appropriate head. And some sort of freestyle deer hair popper.
  21. nice. seems a shame to have that get all tore up when the bass start fighting over it.
