  1. well there are gar that swim around at a couple local beaches, and i always have wanted to fish them
  2. for longnose gar,if you are planning on fishing with hooks, have a rear trailer hook attached to the fly to "hook" the gar,or if you want to not use hooks, simply tie the hookless gar fly.For any spin fisherman,i would suggest getting a popper and removing the treble hooks and then tying some nylon rope on a kook that has had the pouint removed,as when i went on a camping trip, the gar would repeatedly smash at the popper, and since there was no nylon rope on the rear hook, the gar would not get hooked
  3. SmallieHunter said that this year's contest would start soon, but PM him so that you can get the rules,or you can go to previous contest forums and look at the rules there
  4. nice goin panflyfisher i guess you have a honey hole that you can depend on for them carp
  5. id say that would definately catch fish, including bass.Last year i got to witness an awesome sight, i was fishing off a pier and i scared a grasshopper which it flew onto the water below. As it struggled, i thought of watching it because i thought i would see a rock bass or pumpkinseed come out from under the pier and grab the grasshopper. as i was watching it,suddenly a 12" smallmouth came out and scooped the grasshopper and returned to its layer, which i couldnt believe
  6. it looks funny, but it will catch fish i bet
  7. fly tyer, thats what i was trying to replicate
  8. im pretty sure big brookies would also take frogs as they hit mice
  9. i tried it a couple days ago and the gar werent very interested(probly because they are starting to spawn),but then when i tired to modify it,i trimmed a little too much off,so i had to "scrap" it but i tied up one already and ill have a smaller version tied today for the canoe trip im goin on.theres plenty of gar here, last year i seen 7 gar on the canoe trip, and when i went fishing for them, there were about 5 around
  10. i used 3/16th diameter 3 strand nylon rope,i would suggest 1/16th because it isnt as bulky, plus the fly that i based it off of (Multispecies Special 2007 in-Fisherman magazine) used 1/16th diameter
  11. yea, they are smart now dave, you have been fishing them a lot so know they are only gonna key on BUGS THAT LIVE IN OR AROUND THE POND.If you fish the same presentation over and over, they soon learn to ignore it,and you have been putting fishing pressure on the fish by constantly fishing the same thing (like using bread or dough). You should find some rock bass and stock them in that pond, they are aggressive and you dont have to worry about the fish turning off for a while
  12. thanks there are a couple of beaches near me that i have seen gar swimming in the shallows, and it would kinda be like "stalking bonefish in the shallows" as put by Pujic's recent article on gar fishing in Canadian Fly Fisher Magazine
  13. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by panfisherteen: Hookless Gar Fly
  14. tie some flies that the gills havent seen before, like those jig worms
  15. NICE CARP! w2g with those catches
  16. i love rock bass because they always bite in the summer, and if you fish a dock, use a 3" tube (plastic) and watch them grab the tube and hold on forever, its really cool
  17. and that 10" perch, show that pic dave
  18. it does look like it will catch fish
  19. printing cards would be a good idea also, try to interest local tackleshops, since a lot of fisherman go there. If they buy the flies and they work well, the name of those flies will spread, creating more business for you i am also into selling jigs, and i do have a tackleshop interested, and the guy had some testers test them out(ice fishing).Hit the tackleshops, they could be a "breeding ground" for sales
  20. looks good, bass would be sure to take a swipe at that
  21. i would love to get my mom to preorder a magazine, buyt unfortunately only people from the US can preorder
  22. good lookin fly i believe its better to tie your own flies because it costs less, its a fun little hobby, and its always satisfying to catch a fish on something you tied
  23. maybe in a year or two you will have some nice slabs in there
