Hi folks, I am as you may be aware going to be doing a 24 hour tying session to raise funds for Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland. Davie McPhail was first up to the oche to donate a SUPERB fly for the cause and today i received another which is going to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. If you wish to bid drop me an email. http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc82/cr...r/P5010010a.jpg http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc82/cr...er/P5010007.jpg The fly is a Gitana (Traherne) tied on a remastered hook and is a size 8/0 and was tied by Robert Ryan Houston from Northern Ireland. Robert was this years Masters winner in the Fly-Fishing and Fly Tying magazines winter league. Its just superb and is now listed on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=200223260564 Best regards Keith

Fantastic shots. Are these wild birds? You are lucky people to have these stunners around Keith

Hi Dave, Many thanks for your generous donation. It will make a difference to the cause sir Best regards Keith

I see. Never really thought that may be the case. Dont really associate eagles with landfill sites. Just a sad endightment of our world really. However if it helps them thrive then some good comes from it. Here in the UK there has been re-introductions of a couple of bird species one of which is the Red Kite. There is a farm in Wales that actually feeds the birds every day with chicken drumsticks. I have seen upwards of a 100 birds there. They travel huge distances to get there. Amazing sight. BUT I still have never got a great photo of them!!!

Try this http://globalflyfisher.com/staff/helm/selecting/chart.html Cheers Keith

I was wondering about the eagles. Fantastic shots. Is it at a feeding station or something?

Thanks for the info guys. I was aware that it (the lens + camera) would be about a 450mm equiv. I will have to try a friends convertor before I make a final decision. Some of the shots I have taken have been nice and sharp but too far out to be good after cropping. Its a pain but wearing specs does not help. I need them to see the target but the shots seem out of focus after the picture is taken. Thats with adjusting te diopter on the eye piece. I guess I must be just being a little too ambitious with some of the shots I am trying. Plus I am still learning how to use the camera properly. As for your shots Wulff well i guess you know but WOW is a small understatement. Thanks again Keith

Here is a couple of bird shots i got this week. The "hawk" is a Buzzard. Fabulous o see around and they are just pairing up for the spring too. This one is blurred I know. (See converter thread) but they only do this when pairing up. The last two are a Blue Tit and a Chaffinch male

Hi folks, Another newbie question for you pro's out there. I have been trying to get some pics of birds of prey here in the UK. This week I have taken ove 150 shots and got 2 that were any good. Camera is a Canon 350 with a 300mm lens on board. The question i have is can I use converters on a DSLR or is it a waste of time? Will they take a 300 up to a 600 or not? I guess i would lose a few of the bells and whistles but if it gets good shots then I am happy with that. I ask because I got some good shots of birds that were souring on thermals but they go to yukk when i crop them. I guess you are all shaking your heads and saying Dumb Limey! So am i dumb or wott :dunno: Cheers Keith

Fabulous shot of the heron. I see Spey Hackle..........

Well our spring started like this: and this:. along with the benefit of seeing this fine fellow Then we woke up today to THIS!!! Four inches of snow over night. It did let me get this though which I like. Rip em up folks........... Keith

Dave , That would take the humble "goldhead" to a new level. There would be an increase in fly box thefts and fly-fishers getting hijacked for their patches KP

Hi folks, Still time to get involved if you would like to. Take a look at the list of prizes for the raffle and if you would like to buy tickets then you can do so by PayPal direct from the site. http://fnfwilts.tripod.com/cfrmarathon/ Thanks Keith

Wonderful stuff Wulff. At least I know what can be achieved now. Love your shots. We ahd cloud and could not see the eclipse. Thanks KP
-
Thank you sir. Glad to hear its almost there I dont have a brillant edit suite but will have a play with the one (Picassa) that i do have. I look forward to seeing what you can do with that pic Wulff. Some of you guys got some great shots. Darn that cloud!
-
Wulff thanks for the response matey. I am still learning this DSLR thing and all pointers move me on. Its hand held though I am looking at a tripod at the moment. The crop is fairly heavy as I have only (?!?) got a 300mm lens. I will have another play tonight if there is no cloud. Whic is what we got at the time of the eclipse last night and I didnt get any shots at all. Thanks for your help sir Keith
-
Well the eclipse is onight (3am UK time) and NO I wont be around for that no matter how good it will be. Just taken these two though. There is a haze ring around the moon and I can get the haze but no moon detail. Any ideas???

I know you were :j_k: I have no problems with peoples taking the mickey provided they will take it back Just wish I was smart enough to return the compliments quickly! LOL As for the boat train, well thats a good idea. They sell English fish n chips and for dinner you could try tripe and onions! YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK. As you say however a good "heart attack " breakfast sets you up for a good days fishing. Or a day in ER!! :hyst:  Keith

Maybe she had English blood in there somewhere ! We invented talking so it cant be funny y'all And we must have been around when cooking was started too. ( We just took no notice on that one) :wallbash: Now driving is a different matter. We invented roads and cars so our way is the only way. As for cameras we invented those too but most of us cant use them. Which is where our smart brethren across the puddle come in!! I use Photobucket but the pics I put on the site were straight from my harddrive which proves we cant use computers either. PB it is then ! Thanks to you both for the help on this and Peter for your grand sense of humour. :hyst: Or did you mean it all

I just posted a couple of pics but they came out on the forum in a huge format for one (swan ) and the size I wanted (moon) in the other. How do you insert pictures into the post to get results that are not too big to see on the page with no scrolling around required? Sorry if its a dumb question but hey I am a Limey
-
Heres a shot I took a couple of days ago of a swan. Still only playing with the new toy but if you have thoughts on the shot I would love to hear them Cheers Keith

Hi folks, I have been reading this thread with regard to the moon shots. Using Wulffs data and also Ashby's I had a play with my new toy tonight. Its a Canon 350 and the lens was a 90-300EF. No doubt there are huge ammounts you can have a laugh at but I would like to hear your thoughts on what where etc etc I need to do next. Sell the camera is not an option
