  1. I’m interested in tying this pattern, but I don’t know what it’s called. Can anyone please tell me the name of this fly? It has a rabbit strip spine and a white marabou throat, if that helps. Picked up a few in the dollar bin at a fly shop out of state. I’ve had enough luck catching bass that I want to stock the box and tie some for a swap. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance. AG
  2. This fly is one I created to nymph for trout at my local river after the hatch. On the Animas, the rainbow trout and brown trout eggs start hatching, and there are tons of little fry that become food for the larger trout. I used to nymph a white rabbit leech for them, but I wanted to create a more realistic baitfish profile to catch them with. Being completely coated with UV resin, this fly will be very durable, and able to withstand many fish strikes from toothy brown trout. Also, I find this fly to not be too difficult to tie. Materials I used on this fly. Hook: Umqua U301 in size 12 Weight: .015 lead wire Thread: Veevus 16/0 in olive Tail: Marabou in Olive Body Wrap: Tinsel Twist in Olive and Red Back: Peacock Hurl Belly: Pearl Crystal Flash Eyes: 2mm 3D eyes 1st Coat Resin - Solarez "Thin Hard" Formula 2nd Coat Resin - Solarez "Bone Dry" Formula
  3. This fly worked for me out in Corpus, I caught about 50% of my speckled trout on it, and it was rather easy to tie, and also cast. In fact, it casted so well compared to some other flies that I exclusively used this fly on my 3rd day fishing. This is rather easy to tie, and hard to mess up. The Fish Masks really make tying this easy, just get your materials on the hook, then slip over the mask and whala! You have a finished fly! Really is a great fly to use and tie. Here is a list of materials I used on the fly. Hook: Gamakatsu SC15 in size 1 Thread: Veevus Power Thread 140 in Brown Weight: .015 Lead Wire Flash: Pearl Flashabou Body: Congo Hair in Polar Bear, Caddis Tan, and Dark Brown UV Resin: Solarez "Bone Dry" Cap: Fish Skull Fish Mask size #6 Cap Adhesive: Fletch Tite Cap Eyes: 5MM 3D eyes
  4. This fly has been my solid go-to for the past few years on the Great Lakes
  5. This "flash minnow candy" uses a flexible UV curing resin for the body shape of the fly. Instead of using hard curing resin which doesn't feel realistic, and is prone to cracking/breaking. This will be more durable, and utilizing a flashy material, it will shine brilliantly in the water. This fly is great for both fresh and saltwater fish. Hook: Gamakatsu SS15 size 2 Tail fiber: Unique hair - clear/white Flash fiber: Starburst dubbing - pearl, holographic silver, jet black Eyes: 3D 4mm eyes Eye adhesive: Fletch Tite Body Resin: Solarez "flex" UV curing resin Thread: Danville clear monofilament thread - Fine
  6. staring at the vice with frustration, not sure if the patterns that i am tying look good or not. Playing around with EP anadromous brush. being that it is an ep brush, would I trim that like i would regular ep fibers?? I also find that the belly segment of the brush gets fouled around the hook bend sometimes, would i cut it right before it reaches the bend? 7. Opinions and insight?
  7. The square tail marabou deceiver is a great baitfish imitation. Its got a wide profile, and moves nicely in the water due to the marabou. The marabou is protected from being ripped up by the more durable buck tail surrounding it. This fly can be tied in a number of colors, and sizes. Making it great for a large number of fish species. Hook: Gamakatsu SS15 size 2 Thread: Danville 210 waxed (pink) Tail: Marabou (hot pink) Flash: Flashabou (pearl) and krystal flash (pink) Wings: Bucktail (hot pink and white) Gill: Red krystal flash Eyes: Silver 3D eyes (size 5/32) Epoxy: Solarez "thin hard" and "bone dry" formulas Music: Sunny, funnysong, happiness - Bensound.com Linked video's: Preparing bucktail - https://youtu.be/glU67iVvkc0
  8. The Schminnow was originally created by Norm Zeigler to fish snook on the small islands off of Florida. This fly resembles a large wooly bugger, but was originally tied with estaz. I myself have made some small edits to the fly and I call it the "super schminnow" its more flashy, has even more movement in the water, and has a weighted head for some jigging action. One of the reasons this fly works so great is that it can resemble a shrimp, or a baitfish. So its great for multiple fishing situations. Hook: Gamakatsu SS15 size 1/0 Thread: Danville 210 waxed in white Tail: White select craft fur Under Body: EZ Body over dubbing Over Body: Ice dubbing (pearl) Music: Sunny & Funnysong - Bensound.com Dumbbell Eye Tips: https://youtu.be/1vAds9-bnhA
  9. What do you guys think of this glass minnow? I usually tie it with bucktail, but I got this synthetic material recently and decided to tie it in that. Tell me what you think? The video is only 6 minutes and 45 seconds. https://youtu.be/ffMVjYoSczc
  10. I want to see your Steve Farrar Fiber baitfish. Saltwater, freshwater, doesn't matter. Here are some of mine. My favorite is the bottom one, Owner AKI.
