  1. Even after close to 8 inches of rain in the last few days, many of our billabongs are still just puddles... but I went looking today didn'tsome hope anyway. And with a plan... I really wanted to try out a couple of ties I've received from swaps in the last 12 months to 2 years.... 1st fly on this morning was a 'devilled disco shrimp' tied by a mate for Western Australian black bream. the baby tarpon loved it, and I quickly donated it to a persistent little ox eye. The next fly I tried was tied by Horseshoes for a flats swap I hosted a while back. It was a sexy little muddler thing that she had proven on baby tarpon in the carribean I think.... well now she can say that it's been proven on both species of tarpon.... ... then of course i lost it Fishing wasn't easy, but I persisted with a couple of similar ties from the deer hair swap I hosted earlier this year.... these guys didnt disappoint either... I really was just fishing a puddle, so I decided to sneak on down to another spot I know, where our ozzie tarpon are of a better size.... the wind madecasting difficult in and under the trees... I continued... one of the muddlers was soon eaten by a 2 footer that wanted the fly more than me.. and then little ol' me decided I should try crackle back's deerhair popper from the surface swap I meistered last year... wow... mistake on my part... that fly was too good to lose.... note to self.... 2ft tarpon and 6lb tippet really don't mix in tight water..., anyhoo... had a good day out fishing a range of swap ties... and on my way home I decided to pull out thebold faithful black and pink woolly bugger for a local spot, (a pattern I tied for the first swap I meistered) ... 15 minutes was all it took to raise the morning's tally by 2 more.... Thanks everyone for playing in the swaps. And may there be many more for everyone this year.
