Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2022 Didn't get any "big" trout tonight, but did get a couple nice bows. One was a real nice fat 12"-13" one. Had some fish rising for about an hour and threw every fly in the box at them but they just didn't want to take. Still a beautiful evening on the river though. The Mad Duck 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2022 It will take another year for the fish there to bite again. They will all have sore mouths. Glad this trip is so epic!
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2022 I knew it, the Au Sable is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow 😁
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2022 Decided to kill a few hours mid day before heading out tonight for the hatch so grabbed the spey rod and had some fun with a few feisty bows pulling streamers.

mikechell 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2022 This trip will be the bar for every trip after this! It's good to see you having a good time, Steve. How did the motel owner like his new rod?
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2022 He loved it. Worked out well because I didn't even know it but his birthday was yesterday. He took me to lunch at the restaurant across the street, then took me to show me the 50's style diner they are building down the street. Ended up hanging out with him for a couple hours so that was really nice.
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2022 Pretty much my view for the evening. Multiple times I had to retreat to the trees to get out of a downpour. Decided to throw in the towel early tonight. At the mid-way point of the trip so legs & feet are getting sore from walking 5+miles each day and wading non stop. Not as young as I use to be So figured tonight is a good night to kick back at the motel, relax, and watch some Big Bang marathon for the rest of the night. Will get up early and hit the river and see what tomorrow brings.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2022 Big Bang !!! Love it, and the spinoff Young Sheldon. A good way to put your feet up for an evening. Me? I'm going to bed!
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2022 I told myself I was gonna spend the day at the motel and rest up till this evening, but who am I kidding. No way I can be this close to the river and not fish it. Grabbed the spey rod and worked some streamers for about 3 hours this morning. Nothing big at all, but some pretty lil' rainbows came out and played.
The Mad Duck 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2022 Meh....You can sit and rest when you get home. Until then...Wear your feet off wading and kill your shoulder casting....WORTH IT!!!
Lesg 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2022 Seems to be that you actually found the proverbial "Pot of Gold". As Mike said the bar is set pretty high but I think you might jump over it again next year. The more you learn about a river the better the results. Les
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2022 Finally managed to get some of the trout that have been rising and snubbing my flies the past 2 nights to take it. Nothing big but some nice plump colorful bows. The walk back was interesting. About 10pm halfway up the path through the woods I spooked something that growled/exhaled and then ran through the woods. I'm telling myself it was a deer.....I tell myself lots of thing when I am alone in the dark woods at night 😬
