October Flies From The Vise

Recommended Posts

I used to tie a tarpon fly in those same colors (blue collar, orange and yellow tail) as that Winter's Hope pattern... It was very popular among the shops I was fillling orders for a bit more than 30 years ago...  That Wiinter's Hope is very nicely done... hopper

A Disco Prince Nymph!

I guess it is more of a twisted prince. A Smoky Robinson prince nymph. I always think Smoky when I see purple and black.

The caribou, being variegated in color, turned a neat mixture of chartreuse/olive when dyed; I seriously doubt the trout care one way or another, but I was happy.

hook - WFC Model 3 #10
thread - Uni 8/0 chartreuse
tag - yarn chartreuse
rib - small wire gold
body - Ice Dub Caddis Green
body hackle - chartreuse
shoulder - pheasant rump dyed chartreuse (1 Tbs Rit Neon Yellow/1 cup water)
collar/head - caribou hair dyed chartreuse

Regards,
Scott

Thanks Bob!! Your opinion carries weight for sure! The Winter's Hope is a wonderful crossover pattern...I've tied it in smaller sizes for SRC and used it on warm water species as well...Thinking about tossing it off the beach for who knows what!!!

Pig-Nymph-Black-Top-1080-down.jpg

Pig Nymph - Black

Hooks - TMC3761 or DAI1560 or equivalent, sizes 12-16

Thread - Black

Tail - Three dark peccary hairs

Abdomen - Wrapped with dark peccary hair

Thorax - Black ostrich herl

Legs - Black hen hackle tied on as a collar and trimmed off on top and bottom

Doug Prince of Monterey, California, originated this pattern. In view of the fact that peccary is not always available, many fly tiers have found that moose is just as effective.

Tandem popper

Tie in leader over a size 14 hook. Super glue this, tie a zebra midge. Put beads on leader. Tie down on Aberdeen hook with a biot tail. Super glue this as you put the popper body on. Add legs, ect if you want.
I have caught panfish on this.
