I've been kind of enamored lately by Catskill style flies. I'd have done brown and white, but....didn't have the right size of those colors on my bench so used what I have. I'll def try it, show knows it just might be that secret agent we all need to have a couple of in the box.
Poopdeck 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2022 Pheasant tail nymph - unweighted Hook - 16 2XL long Thread - Dk brown Uni Tail - Pheasant tail fibers Ribbing - Sm Uni wire, gold and chartreuse Body - Pheasant tail fibers Wing case - Pheasant tail fibers Thorax - UV peacock herl Legs - Pheasant tail fibers Instead of using the tips of the PT fibers for the legs I tied them in backwards so the curly Q’s from ripping the fibers from the quill became the legs. I dabbled the curls and the wing case with a brown sharpie to give them more of a brown color.

I’ve done these before on larva type flies after seeing Davie McPhail do it in one of his videos. I do like it. This is why I like fly tying, the constant changes, variations and different ways to tie the same old flies. I’m experimenting with glass beads now to see if they bring anything to the fish catching table. I am a fan of the brown sharpie over the natural pheasant tail. Great color. niveker 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2022 Nice flies everybody. Nice legs @poopdeck, have never seen that before. 15 minutes ago, Poopdeck said: I’m experimenting with glass beads now I like using glass beads, they seem to work well as a thorax. The only drawback is they will occasionally break, especially on bigger nymphs fished in fast water. The latter did really well for me this past spring.
