Received a great bunch of flies today

Got a great mixed bag of goodies today. Nice flies and if I didn't follow the patterns it's because I never understood the swap. Closest I come to plan is both articulated. Thanks for the extras. Will need to tie some leaders again.

And me with a head full of mud didn't get it. I can guarantee 'gills like the little articulated Sawyer though. Should work on trout but none of them close to me.

The bad thing about riding in western OK is the wind. Had a friend come down from MN and we rode for several hours with the wives. Got back to house and he said,  "Don't you get tired of riding in the wind?". I said, "If you don't get used to the wind for a couple of months solid in the spring and early summer you don't ride here". The other thing is the mutant grasshoppers. I'm kind of an old sissy and always rode with a wimpshield but with hands exposed you'd occasionally get one of those mutant hoppers in the knuckles and even leather gloves didn't block the pain. Wife sat higher than me on back and one time I saw a big bug coming over shield. I ducked and she got it in the forehead. Not real happy with me.

Back to fishing. Terrestrials are a big part of bass and panfish diet around here but like so many other parts of the world it is VERY noticeable how much the bug count has dropped just in the 12 years we've been down here. That and the birds used to line up on the wires across from us and make a lot of racket. Now you almost never see more than a couple of birds. The fighting for territory on the lines is over now and I hate to see it. Like cockroaches though, whatever is killing off bugs and birds isn't slowing down the hoppers. They ruined my wife's flowers last year and ate the leaves on our bushes and even stripped the ivy leaves from the entry chellis my wife works so hard on.
