niveker 0 Report post Posted February 9 My attempt. That was fun, but I doubt I'd even tie more than one or two of these again. I did have a nice double taper going on the body before the fiasco of mounting the wings, which I started too far back, hiding the front taper of the body and making the head thicker and longer. I used two strands each of embroidery floss, doubling back and tying down the tag ends to help create the body taper, then wrapped side/side. Blue saddle hackle tips as that is the only blue feather I had.
gadabout 0 Report post Posted February 9 Nice! I like the body shape, actually.
niveker 0 Report post Posted February 9 Thanks, it does still have the single taper to the body. Thanks also for starting the discussion. I was laid out for a couple of 5 days with the flu, so could only do a step or two between lengthy bouts of delusion. And I take back my barber-pole comment, after looking at flytire's and your posts, that barber-pole body along with the banding on the wood duck wing feathers is ingenious almost. I don't see that level of creativity often in newer fly patterns.
