I had an old friend who was a naturalist at a Minnesota nature center. A few years after he passed away, I was writing a story on that same-self nature center. The new naturalist, who had worked under Charlie was telling me about the center, when I told him I used to fish with his predecessor.

"You tie flies?" he asked.

Then he had me follow him to a large conference room with a fireplace. Near the side of the fireplace stood a huge stuffed polar bear. He walked up to the bear and gestured for me to follow. He had me peek around in back of the bear and pointed to the bear's thigh, where it looked shaved to the skin. "Charlie tied flies from this bear for 23 years," he said with a laugh. I had to laugh too.
