Guest Report post Posted December 16, 2003 I'm sure the majority of us know this but there might be a few out there who don't so here it goes. Never buy foam from a fly shop, instead check out your local craft store or Wal-Mart and they have a variety of colors and sizes that are perfect! I picked up a whole stack of the stuff at Wal-Mart a while back and I think I paid 30 cents per 8" x 11" sheet and they sell variety packs that equal to a better cost per sheet. So redneckfisherman when you read this tag along with your mamma next time she goes to Wally World and get her to pick up a few sheets of foam, I'm sure she would spend a buck on her little angel
Guest Report post Posted December 16, 2003 Yeah, sure Will, make it hard on the fly shops! Actually, good tip! I buy most of my foam from a local crafts store, and buy the biggest sheets, 12 X 18, or 18 X 30 in the colors that I use most, like black or white. Also, some places sell 2 mm thick foam & some places sell 3 mm thick, both of which have many uses. For example, I prefer to use the 3 mm foam for beetles, and the 2 mm when making multi-layered flies. I've also got some great deals on foam from Ebay! Do they sell white? I was thinkin of a good may fly that floats, and was thinkin havin goose biots out the back, or deer hair, and havin some wing shaped white foam, and havin some olve gray leech yarn for the body. Gotta work with what I got, and I got all that, except for the WHITE foam. Tight lines and good tyin!-redneck

Okay, since we're on the subject of materials available in the NOT FISHING SUPPLY SHOPS - Sorry, Jim, but you said you buy your stuff there, too - Do not overlook Felt - colored felt - which can be used for body dubbing, cut to shapes for things like crabs, clams,et cetera.
