Scarlet Woman

Hook - Single salmon
Thread - Red
Body - Oval silver tinsel in connecting spirals
Wing - Two large jungle cock eyes glued back to back and extending slightly past bend
Shoulder - Two red goose quill sections half the width of jungle cock, extending rearward not quite as far as jungle cock
Hackle - Hot orange as throat, beard style

From the "Nemesis" thread. SalarMan mentioned Vince Marinaro's X wrap hackle collar. Well the drawings in "In The Ring of The Rise" aren't very helpful I decided to take on that "project". This is the latest attempt. Size 18, Bennichi 14/0, CDL tails, thread body, hackle tip wings, ginger whiting hackle, super fine pale yellow thorax.  It's much easier when you use McFlylon or Z-lon for the wings.

  • Thread: 70 DN or 8/0 tan
  • Body: 4mm Tan Upavon HD Foam Cylinder
  • Wing: Saddle Hackle
  • Thorax: Dry Fly Hackle
  • Legs: 6 Knotted Pheasant Legs.

foam experiment, size10 hook, foam strip tied down and folded over to form loop, tie down and advance thread to near eye, tie in foam strip again.loosely wrap foam back to first tie in. tie in 1/2 of a rubber ring from hair styling bands, tie in yellow embroidery floss and wrap forward.2-3 wraps, tie down yellow color and move to the front of the foam. return thread and tie in black embroidery floss and make two wraps. Tie in other half rubber band. move thread back over black floss, wrap yellow floss back to meet the black, Tie off with a few thread wraps on the top of the hook, fold foam back over body and tie off, then trim.

A generic mayfly nymph.  Using after shaft from a Hun for the legs. Mallard flank tail, Swiss straw wingcase,  semperfli 12/0 brown olive thread,  trout hunter brown C.E.N dubbing abdomen and thorax. Size 18.

Body: Peach, Orange, Purple, Orange ( stacked)

Eyes: med. Plastic

Legs: Centipede

another experiment  two colors. size 10 hook biots tied in as tail, foam tied in and the loop made and tied in wrap thread forward and tie in 2 more biots, tie foam down to near eye. Tie in biots folk foam back and tie in, trim foam.

thread - clear mono

eyes - stick on glued and coated with clear glue

wing & belly - yak hair
