Heff2 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2024 I'll be honest, this one really put me to the test but it came out okay. a little clunky at the head and the side veiling feathers got a little roughed up. I may continue to try and preen them but I'm happy with it at the moment. It came from this source The Fishing gazette; devoted to angling, river, lake, and sea fishing, and fish culture : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive Here is the example from the Gazette and the recipe I did use substitute Indian Crow from Ryan Houston and Kingfisher in place of the Chatterer Always open to feedback on improvements I can make
SalarMan 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2024 To quote Darth Vader in his first encounter with Luke Skywalker...MOST IMPRESSIVE!!! Interesting note on the kingfisher as a chatterer sub. Early on kingfisher was the blue feather of choice. Then it was discovered those feathers turned/looked gray when wet and blue chatterer became the sub of choice because it stayed bright blue when wet.😎
SalarMan 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2024 Those side feathers can probably be nicely preened with a small artist's camel hair brush.

Tail veiling feathers help to keep the tail in a good position, herl butts let you hide a tie in and the cheeks cover the tie in point of the wing that can become less pleasing to the eye. 11 minutes ago, SalarMan said: Those side feathers can probably be nicely preened with a small artist's camel hair brush. I will raid my wife's art supplies to see what I can find, I may also give them a light steam to see if that helps

Bruce Derington 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2024 Classic’s will strengthen thread control in working with those types of materials. You have definitely cracked that nut! I know you realize this But these flies are tough and the placement of a single feather can give of Fit’s, great job

A pair of duck billed pliers and some wax doesn’t hurt either.
