riverfisher99 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 Could anyone possibly recommend a pictureful(not sure if that is even a word) book that would cover the fishing specific bugs of the northwest? Thanks for any insight, Shawn
Harold Ray 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 "Aquatic Entomology: The Fishermen's Guide and Ecologists' Illustrated Guide to Insects and Their Relatives (Crosscurrents) (Crosscurrents)" W. Patrick McCafferty; Paperback; $86.95 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/086720017...6889503?ie=UTF8 I took an all day entomolgy class today at the Convocation of the Southern Region of the Federation of Fly Fishers in Mountain Home, Arkansas, and this is the book the prof, a retired oral surgeon who has spent the last few years going to 4 major universities to monitor entomology classes so he can learn the aquatic insects of different regions of the country so he can better fish those areas. He stays a semester or two at each school; his wife thinks he's nuts! I bought the book right after class. Ray
Taxon 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 Shawn- Aquatic Entomology by McCafferty is a wonderful book, but may be a bit of an overkill for your stated needs. As an alternative, I would recommend Hatch Guide For Western Streams by Jim Schollmeyer.
Ethan Bright 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 Another option is from the Xerces Society, a group dedicated to invertebrate conservation: http://www.xerces.org/aquatic/cd-rom.htm Cheers, Ethan
uffepuffe 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2006 I agree with Ethan, I've seen some of the material from Xerces and I've found it to be great for my needs. /Ulf
