I am about to whip up some steelhead flies and was wondering what you would consider top produces, favourites, must have patterns. hook sizes etc.

I would like to tie up a dozen flies with four of each type for a member here. Sure there is vast amounts of information but I would like to know what people that fish these flies opinions are. Any input would be appreciated

Hairwing:

1.

2.

3.

4.

Spey

1.

2.

3.

4.

Nymphs

1.

2.

3.

4.

Thanks to all that would like to help with this list.

Well, I don't fish many hairwings or nymphs, but I would recommend a few speys:

1. Akroyd (I like the white winged version)

2. Sol Duc Spey

3. Skykomish (I tie a dark version of this)

4. Silver Heron

I find with these 4 spey flies I have a lot of the color/shape variations I want when on the water. I also think I am the cat's ass when I get a big brown to swallow my Akroyd :)

Hopefully some more folks have some opinions.

Well for speys I think you have to include the orange heron first off. A couple more would be:

2: Walt Johnsons deep purple spey

3: Veverkas Copper Heron

4: Lady Caroline

5: Sol Duc Spey

I use these in size 2 or larger on AJ hooks or Partridge CS10/1

As for hairwings:

1; Good old Green butt skunk

2: Polar shrimp

3: Purple peril

4: Fall Favorite

5: Any Dave McNeese pattern!

Another one to consider would be the Silver Hilton. I like to tie this with a purple body also. Have fun tying these up. Kevin
