Asleep@theReel 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2006 This one I call the Iron Tyson after my dog. It's tail is made from his tail hair, and it's body is from his body. This fly tying is fun :headbang: This is Tyson
fly time 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2006 That fly has a great buggy look to it, those seem to produce a lot of fish. Good lookin dog, he looks like a lab and rot mix, is he? Dustin.

Thanks, it is my first time doing the dubbing thing. I have gotten that before, but he is a very large(and soaking wet) American Pit Bull Terrier at a great stretch of a beautiful stream. When he is wet, and because he is black, he looks exactly like a lab/rott...good eye...you know your dogs. I caught and released a beautiful 3 lb. brown there(which is huge for a tiny stream in upstate NY).
fly time 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2006 Thats the biggest pitt I have ever seen!!! he must have good blood in him, he has a very good looking strong posture to him. anyways, here is a couple of tips on dubbing, for dries make the body a cigar shapd, wax your thread before you twist the dubbing on it, and a little bit of dubbing goes a long way. When you twist it on the thread, for dries do it kinda tight, this will trap air in it and make it float better, for wets its just the opposite, you can twist it kinda loose and it will help draw water and make it sink. You are doing fantastic for a beginner, and you have no idea of just what you have gotten yourself into, this turns into quite the addiction. Dustin. Thanks for the tips, I know I wasn't doing it right, but I sort of like the 'everywhere' buggy look. He is a full pit, and is 90lbs of pure baby :crying: :baby: He is an awesome dog, and has such a good heart. I was lucky enough to work from home when we got him(got him young, too young!) until about he was a year and a half. I prepped 'dog meals' for him, and mixed with premium dog food. And he kept growing. His father was 65lbs and mother was 51lbs. So he is a freak of nature. But I will tell you this, best darn security you can buy...but little do people know that if you broke in he would be belly up waiting for you to pet him!!! robow7 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2006 what I like about your flies is that you're willing to think outside the box, not just content on tying the standards, most excellent :headbang:

Asleep@theReel 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2006 Thanks, I am actually having trouble thinking within the box. I have a book, the fly tying bible, great book, but they don't quite seem the same if you don't make them more individual...you know! Here are a few more, tied this morning before work and then again after, here they are... The brown one with antennae and wings is made from my dogs hair, it has cool black tips...also I wrapped some in lead wire to help them get down... flyfishingtaz 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2006 awesome flies man :headbang: . I used to live in cal. myself. Both N. and S. cal. Depending on the area that your in there in s.cal, you might wanna check out Bob Marriots fly shop in fullerton,ca. They're to fly fishing and tying, what toys R us is to kids wanting toys. It's the largest fly shop I've ever seen. I dont think that there is anyone in the US that can show off what they do. Anyways, if your lookin for local info, Id check with them. They guide world wide, and probably would know all the hot spots there in S.Cal. Good luck, and AWESOME FLIES :headbang:
