Red Quill

Hey Shaq, i've watched this fly tyed countless times and you did a good albeit fast job. Seems to me that your tyin' philosophy is about speed. Not that your tryin' to win any races......but like you'd rather be in the water. One of the very BEST dry fly tyers on this planet, (NOBODIES better) will be tying at the CJ, Dave Brandt. His favorite dry is the Red Quill and it's somewhat of his signiture fly. He takes a bit more time and ends up with a fly much more suitable for the frame.........but the fish don't give a damn at all. Yours is eminately fishable, and undoubtedly will catch just as many fish...........naturally that's up to the fisherperson. Dave would want perhaps just a few more fibers for the tail, and if not, stiffer fibers. He would make sure his underbody was a bit more tapered evenly, by having his tail butts and wing butts join exactly together to form that taper. His hackle would end up exactly a gap and a half, not two gaps, so as to not come up as high as the wing. And of course he would leave enough room for a Turle Knot at the head between where the head is finished and the eye begins, in the old fashion method of tying Catskill Dries. His wing is done differently as well, but in the end all ways work.....as long as the fish take them. Your gonna have so much fun at the CJ pickin' up tips and stuff. And i think a lotta guys are gonna learn a lot from watchin' you tye the, "let's get to fishin' method." Very glad you'll be there. TGF affords all styles and approaches. It's a good thing. mark.....
