Mike Boyer 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2008 Hi guys, I recently had the inspiration to tie some Steelhead flies again. The first one I'll subject you to is the Syd Glasso pattern the Quillayute. Instead of the Teal called for in the palmered hackle, I used European Widgeon which is pretty close. The throat hackle is Blue Eared Pheasant dyed black, and the wing is of course Golden Pheasant flank. Please feel free to comment.
Speyman1 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2008 Beautiful work Mike, True Glasso Style, Tiny head. I think its much better with the European Widgeon than Teal. Impeccable floss and tinsel work. I'm inspired and impressed !!!!!!!! Speyman
halcyon 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2008 Lovely tie. However, the Quillayute is not a Syd Glasso pattern but correctly a Dick Wentworth pattern. Dick designed and tied this in the style of his fishing companion Syd Glasso.
Mike Boyer 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2008 Thanks for the correction, halcyon. I always see the pattern grouped with Glasso patterns.
Frank G. Swarner III 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2008 That's gorgeous Mike....it is perfect in my eyes. Something about those gentleman, that period of fishing for steelhead, and the flies they tied their soul into.
