shezli 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2008 Nice tie speyman. I have been reading about spey and dee wings recently, although I'm still a bit confused as to what really sets them apart. They look pretty much the same to me other then the fact that they are tied in separately with a dee fly. S
Speyman1 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2008 Thanks everyone, shezli, the Spey/Dee wing difference is on a Spey the section clipped from the left hand quill is mounted on the right side and right side quill on the left. On the Dees left quill/ left side, right quill/ right side. On Mike Boyers recent posts of his wonderful Herons you might notice how the wings are tenting the fly creating a keel of a boat look when viewed from above. The Dees wings when viewed from above are splayed away from each other creating a distinct vee shape. BTW hows the fishing? Rivers are way out of shape here, oh well, more time to tye, Thanks again everyone, I appreciate all your critiques and comments. Cheers, Speyman

shezli 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2008 Speyman Thanks for the explanation, it really helps. I feel kind of silly, I tied a "dee" style wing posting it (my first time tying a wing like that) as a spey wing. :S I don't really get a lot of time to fish, but the sea trout and the salmon are starting up. I'm hoping to go out to a place next weekend where we can get some trout 3-4 lbs. In a few weeks we will be headed into camp and we'll be into the big guys. Thanks again!
