Fly Tying

Flies from the vice.

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys a bit of fluff on a hook to join the gang!

112 Pages I've got to be part of this thread, how did I miss it ;) What a great idea Claudia! Some great looking flies by everyone.

Posted these on the coldwater forum yesterday(Sorry if you've already seen them), some flies I cranked out the other night.

Not one of my own patterns the original creator is Murray Wilson (Great Aussie Flytyer). After catching quite a few wily browns on it I tied up 4 dozen in various colours.

Heavy Wire Hook

Tail Hackle Barbs

Simple dubbed body

Thread Ribbing (Optional)

Wngcase Henry’s Fork CDC hackle - two strands for large hooks 12#’s and one strand for small hooks 14#’s.

It won't win any beauty contests but is easy to tye and very effective :D

Looks like you'll need to invest in another fly box seeing this ones full.

...stupid sun and global rotation....

Did I mention our season kickstarted last month? Just teasing ;) you'll be getting even soon enough.

Firetiger - Nice buggy looking emerger :)

Some wet fly experiments after receiving new materials yesterday.

Mainly practicing hackling, being stingy with my thread wraps and aiming to get neater heads/proportions.

Lovely tie Rocky :D

Hans your flies are an inspiration, perfect proportions, material choice and technique.

I've got so many soft hackles after my 4th go I think I'll razor most of them.

I'll keep trying but these deceptively simple ties are very difficult to get right, they might be quick to tie but not to master.
