Flies from the vice.

Hi

I love tying trout flies because they intricate but I am still at the basics with them.

I also love to tie salmon flies because they are bright and colorful.

I want to learn to tie spun dear hair flies like mice and muddlers. and eventually want to try my hand at married wings but I am not yet properally equipped to tie married wings.

So really anything along these lines that you can think of like new flies to tie, techniques, or good websites to get information or to purchase materials.

Hi SheZ.

Youre flie Is a work of art, and the colouration of the body is just stunning. Youre hard work on this one realy shows. Pure Eyecandy. Thanks alot for sharing it with us.

(Youre right about the hairwing, it moves sort of like a jellyfish lots of movement , and because the hight of the wing nearly no tangeling is ever apearing. great fishing flies.)

Tying for fly swaps now. I've got 25 Ridley Creek Fuzzballs to tie for the first swap. A size 22 midge pattern that I came up with to use on a local creek. Then there's another 30 to tie for another swap, 3 different patterns 10 of each. Haven't really decided what I'll tie though I have to do one minnow pattern, one panfish pattern, and I forget what the other category I'm tying for. It might be a caddis and if that's the case, some variation of a CDC and Elk.

 

I'm considering this for the minnow pattern, one of the larger ones on top.

 

And this variation of Tony's Froggie in a size 8 or 10 with a sequin behind the eye to make it a chugger for the panfish pattern.

I have been working on this fly for well over a month, and I am about to put head cement on it and call it a fly. My first Ronn Lucas hook, so you can see why I would take my time on this one.

Thanks again all. I'm pretty proud of my last fly. The head is drying as we speak. I'm selling it and donating the proceeds to charity. (blue fibers are blue and gold macaw tail)

 

 

Charlie: It looks like you're doing pretty well with the basics. If I were to recommend one pattern, I would say the muddler. This is the most versatile fly going (in my opinion). If you would like to lead to married wings eventually, the turkey wing and tail will help with that. Also there are so many variants it's insane. If you want to use colored hair, change the body, put a cone head on it etc... The possibilities are endless. To start, I would tie it with a fairly sparse : one clump of hair on top and one clump on bottom (fished like a streamer). As you get comfortable with it you can pack it tight and give it a body that will let it float like a popper. If you use your imagination variations on this pattern can take you a good ways. One of my favorite flies is a muddler with a nice tight head used like a Popper. I tie it with a mink tail and a dubbed body, and fish it like a mouse (NOT dead drift. It's the bubbles that stimulate the trout here). Something that makes it so effective is that you get all the action tat you would get out of a mouse in a nice compact package. Smaller flies give off less bad vibes from what I have seen.

Anyhow, cant wait to see some more of your flies.

Picture no 2: this is only my suggestions on how i would do it. That nessesary Dont mean its the Right way if it was up to me to tye that one i would: make the tail with ca half amount of fibers but dubble the length and make sure the fibers stay on top of the hook shank, and take a little shorter hackle and just add some more so it gets full and fat, if you force some of the fibers down a bit to create some space for some underwings of fur, that way it will be one very lively flie that moves alot. But i think you are doing pretty fine as it is Deer hair is realy Not my thing... i just Hate cutting in it :sick: , so i hope some other will help you on that one... C

I was wondering were you were Micke. Sad to hear you you got the "lack of inspiration" bug... and hope you recover Fast as a spring wind. Maby you can host a Scandinavian Theme Swap ? (the interaction with other tyers helpt me alot to get over my tying block.) Or some new matterials, works sometime. I bet that little sweet Golden puppy you have as a photo will do fine otherwise people "park" their dogs outside the lokal market right near by you ... C

antenae-bills beetl and ant leg material,orangish...with three strips of crystal flash for fish atraccting purposes

pinchers-brown strip of marabou and rabbit strip(on each side of hook)upside down

legsa-badger saddle hackle

underbody-crawdad ice chennile

I've been trying out a new vise today, so I've tied a little bit of a this and a little of that. Size 18 and 20 Zebra Midges, size 16 Prince Nymphs, size 1/0 Clousers.

Very nice wet fly selection there beadhead they look great, I always have problems with getting the wings to sit just right.
