Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 Are you talkin about the bug that kinda "walks" on the surface and skates across in short (about 8-10") bursts? look a "bit" like a spider almost.
appalachian angler (tn.) 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 I have never witnessed trout feeding on "skaters" but I remember in Joe Brooks, book Trout Fishing, him talking about tying and tactics for what I believed he called 'Skating Spiders". I usually only see the bugs in slow moving silty pools that trout seldom inhabit. A.A.

Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 We've always just called em water bugs never knew the proper term for them. But around here in MI it seems like the only place you find them is right up next to the bank in a couple inches of water so i dont think that they really get out where a trout or any other fish can really get a look at them. But even if they did i think they are so darn fast when they "skate" across the water that a trout would quickly realize that they would use up to much energy to actually catch one of them.
