Hi Salty Dog,

The CDC hackle is wound in a split thread. So I trim the cdc fibres from the stem, split the thread open and insert the fibres. Then, spinning the bobbin holder, the fibres will splay. I then wind the thread in the same way I wind a hackle stem. Whip finish under the hackle in the usual way.

Dave.

I have a dull question: do you tie and treat the CDC feather in the same way one would a normal hackle?

The first CDC flies (Moustique from Switzerland) actually used the stuff like normal hackle; it was not very practical. It was only after people started taking it off the hackle stem, such as the Fratnik's F-Fly and Dave's Paradun ;) that the material really took off
