Guest Report post Posted January 13, 2010 A few summers ago, I noticed a small mouse swimming in my pool. He struggled and fought for dear life, nose barely breaking the surface, legs churning like it was on a hamster wheel. I was inspired by his heroic efforts and chose to create a fly that mimicked his final death dance. Most mouse patterns have the mouse floating on top of the water, while this is great at imitating a mouse which is dead and bloated, I wanted something that would fire up the bass and cause the ... View the full article That is just a terrific pattern. I am impressed by the attitude of the fly in the water. And the use of the chickabou to give the body more puff and motion is a very nice touch as well. I've always tied pretty conventional deer hair mice, but I think this is one I need to try out! I really like that effect!
sorelips 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2010 I originally invented this fly and have recently been copied by Jackie. This fly was originally posted in a fly swap for coloradofisherman.com in 2008. Although I have been tying it since 2006. Here is a link. http://www.coloradofisherman.com/forum/ind...p?topic=35728.0 It is the last fly on the first page and is clearly named the dirty rat in some discussion on page 2. It would have been nice if Jackie had actually given credit to me as the original inventor of this fly. I am currently in the process of trying to get this fly on the market and have been doing some research and seem to have been copied even before it really got off the ground. Here is another link where I am trying to find out how to protect this pattern. http://www.coloradofisherman.com/forum/ind...p?topic=48991.0 I realize this is probably not a standard first post, but I am just trying to run some damage control. Chris Naccarato Well after this reply I have been provided some info that clears some things up. It seems that Jackie and I both came up with our dirty rat patterns at about the same time and he actually originally posted his in 2006. I apologies to him as he did not copy my pattern we both just came up with very similar patterns at about the same time and with the same name. Who would have thought it? Voodoo 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2010 i think you have to be REALLY famous to be able to get the your name stapled to a fly name. Just because you had it in a fly swap doesnt mean it gets published or anything, the best you can hope for is its used as a model or its fished until torn apart. but great patters any ways! i do like the bit about the nose just hangin in there i can sort of see how this might look like a flame, i dont mean its as such. its just my 2c

The swap was only to show that I had first posted the fly in 2008. I was just a little weirded out by the article as it came out at the same time as I have been posting my pattern and creating some discussion about it. I am also getting ready to submit the fly to a couple of companies so the timing was just really weird.
