caught this today

had this cased caddis on the end of my hook today when i reeled in

funny thing was i was using a cased caddis pattern because our friend had caught a steelhead full of them

can anybody identify it

Your caddisfly larva appears (to me) to be of either family Brachycentridae (Humpless Casemaker), or family Leipdostomatidae (Lepidostomatid Casemaker). I will alert Ethan Bright to your posting, as he will likely be able to identify it more precisely.

Sorry for the delay in responding...

Looks like a species of Brachycentrus (Trichoptera: Brachycentridae). Larvae often suspend their cases into the current, from which they filter feed (using fine setae on the forelegs) course- and fine-particulate organic matter.

caught it in the big manistee river here in michigan if that helps

this is the thrid kind of cased caddis i have seen here

also i caught 2 kinds of none cased that were almost identical except in size

 

seems all caddis patterns work here if fished enough

even oversized ones all the way up to #4

Don't need a name.. it came from where you were fishing.. tie the fly and name it what you like. And post the results... KOOL STUFF!
