cookannapurna 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2010 I pulled out a Metz #1 grizzley saddle that I recieved in trade several months ago, only to find that allmost all of the smaller (sz. 14, 16, 18) feathers seem to be folded along their leganth. When I try to wrap the feather the quill wraps on fine but the barbs spike up on both sides of the quill with a pronounced valley in the middle. On the skin it looks like one side of the quill is stripped b/c the barbs are folded against themselves. I am a new member, but not a new tyer, but I have never seen this. Does anybody know if there is a way to correct this? Thanks
gpd4 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2010 Try steaming the feathers. If it works on an individual feather, try it for the whole saddle.

threadpuller 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2010 2 words.... Buy Whiting. Metz is noted for that, and thier stems twisting while trying to tie.
