Horseshoes 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 We all tie, but which fly did you catch trout on? Maybe it is not a traditional pattern or it is your pattern. You had to have tied it yourself. If you have a pic of your trusted (well tied) standby then it would be great to share it with others. Come on you are all given bragging rights. Steve P 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 I fish lots of streamers it's just my game I guess, I also LOVE to tie different streamers. By far my favorite is a sculpin imitation. Here are pictures of my two favorite sculpins. Hope you like, these twwo are my best producers for myself and my customers. Steve

Horseshoes 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 WOW!!! planettrout, carlp5351 fantastic flies. SteveP I will definitely have to try those. Are they best in slow or fast water?
Steve P 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 The bottom is a #6 3x nymph/streamer hook w/med lead (very important for the lead) dumbbells, they are best fished in slow to moderate water. The top fly is tied on a #2 3x nymph/streamer w/ med or small eyeballz or the Orvis eyes, that one was made to be fished in faster heavy flows and high off colored water situations. I have a couple of experimental sculpins that will be in the database soon I hope (if I can get my camera fixed). Steve

deeky 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2010 Every fly rod trout I've caught was caught on one single pattern. Fair warning - I have caught a grand total of 3 trout on the fly and all were rainbow stockies in a small lake. But none the less, you asked. So here is the fly that took all 3. A fairly simple dragon nymph, size 8. Deeky

Horseshoes 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 That is one nice fly riffleriversteelheadslayer. Deeky I have never put the rubber on mine, I'll have to try that variation. Thanks for the input it is much appreciated. It also helps to see some tried and trusted also. Not to mention the bragging rights.
JohnP 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 JohnP nice fly.  What size hook is that? Thanks Horseshoes. I think that is a #8, 4XL. The version that actually caught the fish was tied with peacock ice dub instead of regular herl for the body, but I had this pic in the can so I posted it.
