TheCream 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2011 To answer a couple of questions from my perspective, does anyone use marabou on tails and does anyone use anything else besides hackle: yes and yes. I love marabou in the tails on my bass topwaters. I like how the marabou seems to help the fly sit head-up in the water and the movement, even at rest. It's a little heavier, obviously, when it gets soaked, but I like the trade-off. On my smaller poppers, so far I have just used bucktail for the tail: And as for the collar/overwrap, I like the ice chenille. I usually use the longer ice chenille on the bigger bass flies and the medium size on the smaller poppers. I like that it's durable and adds some glimmer to the fly. So far the fish seem to like them, and I like to let them be the final judge.
