Catalpa_Joe 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2011 I've been thinking about painting some poppers with an air brush. Never used one before, any tips on what or what not to buy? I'd like some tips on what paint or top coat to use also. Thanks in advance.

Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2011 I use to have a side business airbrushing RC car bodies, motorcycles tanks, helmets and all that good stuff. Since you didn't ask a bunch of details and just a simple question I'll give ya a simple answer....Be sure to get a Dual Action brush. They have much more control over a single action. Iwata was the brand I always used and they have some great brushes for around $80-$90. Steve
Catalpa_Joe 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2011 Thanks guys. Now how about some tips on technique, compressors & thinning paint, or is trial & error?

I've read some conventional plug making forums where they talk about air-brushes and Iwata seems to be the most recommended brand. I'm looking at the CR, for painting popping bugs, I think the gravity feed will be plenty large enough of a paint resevoir. The double action CR goes for about $75 and I've seen them on e-bay for $85 with a hose. Catalpa, go on Tackle Underground and create an account and go on the plug making forums for a lot of talk on air-brushing and thinning, etc. All those guys posting on the plug making forums use air-brushes to paint their plugs. I'm gonna put in a plug for the Copic air brush system I have not used it but I watched a guy pull one out of a box and start painting some foam poppers with amazing results on his first try. A relatively cheaper way to get into air brushing most national craft stores carry sets and they usually have weekly 40% - 50% off a single item coupon that you can use for them. http://www.copicmarker.com/products/airbrush-system I have a Badger dual action airbrush that I get mixed results from but I don't use it much either. I second Kirk's comment on Tackleunderground it is the Flytyingforum of hardware chuckers
