That’s me on the left with a good friend up from NY.  Picture was taken on Martha’s Vineyard a few years ago

and we were fishing up island on a new moon night.  The fishing was fantastic that night.

A fun 3 hrs with the 3wt. on the banks of the Caloosahatchee this morning. A giant Mayan, nice Oscar, and several big gills. Dad came to join the action with a rubber worm and a brand new 5wt. he wanted me to try. I caught 2 on his new rod and he caught a nice largemouth on a baitcaster.
When the action slowed and he hung a rock, I was winding in the 5wt. and hung a weed. A gentle tug and snap! Broke his rod that he hasn’t even casted yet. 🤦‍♂️ At least he’ll get a good dinner tonight and a free replacement.

Some of yesterday morning’s bounty. It looks like another exotic is moving in. I caught 1 jaguar guapote last year and my daughter caught one on a pond near my house earlier this year. I caught 3 yesterday. Kept a couple to try. I hear they are excellent table fare.

A small wild brown and 2 pics of the same Rainbow.  I got the Rainbow on a #10 royal coachman winged wet variant (I used yellow floss instead of red).  That bow was probably the hardest fighting fish I've caught this year.  This river is stocked in the spring but perhaps this one was wild?  Two cast later I hooked another decent size fish with the same fly until a rushed blood knot let go and ruined my fun.  I know better than to rush through a knot- I think the adrenalin from the first bow got the better of me. 😵

Nice fish, DF.  Not sure I've caught any wild rainbows in MA - maybe a holdover?  Any wear on the bottom of her tail?   Think she's the one who stole your fly?

Thanks- I believe there are wild rainbows and browns here in MA.  I've caught many small ones on the Swift, Quinapoxet and Still Water rivers in the 5" to 10" size which is well below what the size the state claims they stock.  They can't all be hatchery escapes can they?  If they are wild I don't know how big they can get to be in those rivers.  The Bow in the last post was about 12" so maybe she's a wild trout?  Here's a photo of a recent 5"-6" (wild?) bow I caught on the Still Water river.

Thanks Niveker.  I enjoy the fishing, even when they aren't cooperating ... but I love it when they're hitting.

Thank you Rich.  That fly has been producing well for me.  I'm now stuck between it and the Panfish Attractor as to which one I like more.  The hat, well, I wouldn't go fishing without it!

Nice fish.

I didn't mean to imply there aren't any, just that I don't believe I've caught any of them.  I'm not sure the minimum size of stockies, I meant to ask last night at my fly tying meeting, but forgot.  They way the DFW states it is:

'More than 75% of the trout will be over 12 inches.'
