Graham 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Hey FishyFranky, That is one cool fly, great idea! Have you put it in a sink full of water to see if it floats, even with the bead head? I can think of places I would love to fish that fly, especially if it floats and or remains neutrally buoyant, fished in lake shallows on a full sink line, and slowly retrieved, kind of like how Booby flies are fished in the UK. fishyfranky 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Graham, what a great idea: a Booby nymph! That fly as tied has some lead wrap but I'm sure some playing around would produce a rising/neutral fly. Maybe add some more hair or a bit of foam, no lead, switch to a dry fly hook, etc.
mgj 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 I would think that the deer hair might be enough to fish it in the film. maybe a kf rib instead of wire...that is a very cool fly. mgj

appalachian angler (tn.) 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Looks very stoney...cool fly. I tied some floating nymphs very similar a few years back and had some sucess with trout...had no lead though...Good Luck! A.A.
Guest Report post Posted December 2, 2004 That's neat! Even if it floats, it'll take fish. A BB size shot or 2 will keep it down for a deeper presentation. I've often wondered if a floating nymph would be more visible than one that's glued to the bottom. I know guys that do very well on floating jigheads and inflated worms. Same concept. Love the "glossy" look
