This was a hastily tied entry and a poor picture, but I have had luck stripping flys like this slowly across the bottom for bass. I can't claim the idea as my own, but I found a pattern somewhere on the internet where a guy tied a piece of foam on the tail of a streamer like this. I used superglue, but either way, the idea is the dumbbell eyes and leaded shank cause the hook eye to sink, and the foam floats the tail. You can work the fly along the bottom like a worm on a shaky head jig.

This was a fun fly to do. I found an old flip flop that had a great color for fishing bass topwater. I cut out a plug with a punch and turned it on a homemade dremel lathe. After mounting the hook I dipped it in soft clear coat to give it some bite.

Here's a couple that I've done up. I've have some newer ones but haven't taken any pictures.

Excellent work, Philly ;)

Some great looking patterns in this thread. Giving me inspiration to try a few new things as well as dig out some old ties. Tie a very similar extended body hex fly(Simon's post) that kills the fish in my little limestone creeks...is a wonderful damsel susbstitute. Gonna have to tie some up! Have been away for a while, and love what this thread has done to kickstart me at the bench!
