tidewaterfly 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2012 Real nice looking fly! I like the colors & shape! It will catch plenty of fish! I'm not a big fan of biots, never have been. I substitute silicone or rubber legs for them in most anything I tie that specifies them. Not enough movement to them for me. I also make them longer on such patterns, as I like the extra movement, and the fish don't know how long the legs are supposed to be anyway! Just a personal preference. Guest Report post Posted January 15, 2012 Lotta hellgramite patterns out there. The ones w/biots like yours look best to me. Problem is awfully tedious tying each biot on. May just be me...That's why there's only 1 in this "meaty box"...cdads, sculpins, peacock boogers, dragon/stones, snails, and lone hellgramite. I think they are an important food source anytime of year and would like to have had more, but...Later DL

CrookedHook 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2012 I see myself on Hat Creek (CA) next spring knocking em dead with some of these. There is a hellgrammite swap going on as we speak. It still has spaces. If you have not joined it is not to late.
CrookedHook 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2012 Thanks for the replys everyone. And yes the biots take alot of time tying in while dubbing the body(at least for me). I had three bobbins tyed to this monster at the same time. Started late last night and by the time I was finished it was already 2am. Good thing all I have to do is tye 11 more by march. Perhaps some suggestions: I tyed the front biot/pinchers on then the rear biots. I used dubbing made a (few wraps) then tye more biots then continued the process. I have tried tying on all the biots first then dubbing the body but that was very hard seperating the biots to make space for the dubbing while wrapping. In addition to doing it that way, sometimes the biot would kink causing deformaty. Idk. I am sure I will get faster after a few more. Thanks again
