Dancing Caddis

Recommended Posts

Here's the one that got away. I tried this pattern yesterday

and had a lot of hits and follows. I did have one hook up until

my knot gave way and I lost the fly and fish. Very bad knot as

I found out when I brought my leader in with all the little

curlys that use to be a knot. I used Partridge hook, Swedish Dry Fly

style #16. I have found my tying has become a lot faster and better

quality since I purchased a Peak rotary and a Materelli whip finisher.

I still have a ways to go.---John

An excellent example of LaFontaine's (Brown and Green) Dancing Caddis. These can be very effective when fished with a bit of movement when the natural is active. I can't tell from your photographs, but it is important to trim out the center fibers of the wing. The fibers which lay over the hook point can prevent a solid hookup.

trilene knot is the way to go!

your bloodknot/surgeons knot will break way before a trilene knot.

i have even had the nail knot pull off the line on heavy leaders before this knot will give way.
