troutguy 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2013 The Catskill Fly Fishing Center sadly announced the passing of great fly tyer and author Floyd Franke of Roscoe, NY. His last cast was March 5th. He was truly a great gentleman and wonderful conservationist for trout fishing. He brought many patterns to light and taught many new tyers. Franke, PhD of Roscoe, NY, a retired educator and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Roscoe Regional Rehabilitation and Residential Health Care Facility, Roscoe, NY. He was 72. The son of the late Marvin L. and Eva E. Graham Franke, he was born September 22, 1940 in Hydetown, PA. Floyd had served on the Titusville Hospital Board of Directors, was a former member of the Crawford County Mental Health-Mental Retardation Board, a member and past president of the Pleasantville Lions Club, a member and past president of the Roscoe Kiwanis Club, co-founder of the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild, a member and past board member of the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum, president of the Casting Board of Governors of the International Federation of Fly Fishers - 5 years, an instructor at the Wulff School of Fly Fishing 1989-2006, Chief Instructor for three years. Survivors include his wife, Alberta Tyler Franke, at home; his twin sister, Florence Maxin and her husband, Francis of Pittsburgh, PA; one brother, Burtis Franke and his wife, Margaret of Titusville, PA; sister-in-law, Susan Franke; two adult God children: David E. Crawford and Cynthia Arnold; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Floyd Franke, Jr.; and one brother, Marvin L. Franke. Memorial services will be in the Spring.
