JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2013 Is there something I'm missing in my research on the "Blob" flies which seem so popular in UK? Looks like a short marabou tail and a fuzzy/sparkly roundish body and that's it. Allegedly so devastatingly effective on stocked trout they're likened to Power-Bait? Piker20 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2013 Yep, nothing really amazing other than stocked rainbows murder each other to eat them. As you say, mobile tail and long 15mm typically fritz body. Often fished at the end of leader with more demure on droppers.
cheech 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2013 I had the opportunity to fish with a competition angler when he was fishing the blob. He had them in about every color combo you could imagine, and they worked really well. He was fishing them on an intermediate line with a leech on the end of his line and the blob hanging off of an in line dropper about 12 inches up from the leech. He used the "hang" technique by letting the flies suspend with his rod tip about 45 degrees in the air. He would watch the line as it went into the water to see movement. Any slight movement in the line and he would set the hook.

mikechell 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2013 Stocked trout are raised eating food pellets. With the tail on blob flies, they look like food pellet larvae. Without tails, they mimic adult food pellets.

SSC 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2013 Some of the Blob variants use small foam cylinders to help give action. The FAB (foam arsed blob) has the foam in the "tail" section, the Boobie Blob uses the foam as "eyes".
