fishn311 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2013 Does anyone know of a good place to get big hooks? I am looking for wide gap and heavy wire. Hooks for muskies and things like that.
SCOwens 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2013 I have tied larger offshore flies on 3407DT or 34007 Mustad ... actually reasonable hooks, and if you find it necessary you can throw it against a file, but I have found no reason to sharpen further
catmanclark 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2013 I agree with SCO, I use the "dt" saltwater series and love them.. BUT I do have to file them to a pin point, cant go wrong with the value..
ditz2 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2013 Owner makes some 'heavy' hooks. Not cheap though
Peterjay 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2013 If you can find Eagle Claw LO67, they're a strong hook at a very good price. I think BASS pro shop still carries them, and maybe Cabela's.
Chefben4 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2013 I tie and sell almost all Musky flies (at least this time of year). I use a multitude of hooks. For articulating flies I use 6/0 Mustad 34007's or Mustad "belly hooks (79282hs)," which are basically a split hook as you can see in my SBS's. For the front I currently have been using the 34007's or Gama 8/0 octopus hooks. For single hook flies, I like big mustad spinnerbait hooks.
bigpikeflies 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2013 My favorites are Gama octopus barbless. Come in sizes 4/0-10/0. Up to size 5/0 are in nickle, red, green or black.
