My basic go-to boxes (flies get rotated based on season and location):

Nymphs for streams

Nymphs for stillwater

Dries for streams ( several seasonal boxes)

Dries for stillwater

Just BWOs

Just Salmonflies & Golden Stones

Just Midges

Just ants & beetles

Streamers

Shirt pocket box with a mix of trout flies

Searun Cutthroat

Summer Steelhead

Winter Steelhead

Egg flies

Panfish

A couple boxes for Bass flies

Plus a dozen or so large boxes for stock.

Plus an unknown number of smaller boxes, Altoid tins etc. with misc. flies.

Probably enough! I fish a few different continents from freshwater blue lines to continental shelf so what i do have is necessary, variety is the spice of life :)

I have the 3 boxes I fish with. Then 4 of the big Plano boxes on the bench for stock pile. But the Plano boxes can go from full to empty quite often. I supply several people with flies. Gives me a reason to tie more.

1 for bass flies - 1 for saltwater flies - 1 for trout patterns. And I have a multipurpose box where I keep some patterns that I try for some trout and bass. At home I keep one or two boxes for flies that are in the recycling process or some flies that I need to test.

I have about a bunch of them. Usually I take a box or two when I go fishing. I keep on tying because I like it even though I may not use them all. Wait... i will never be able to use them all. Not a problem.
