FlyFishin Fool 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2013 For anyone who reads John Gierach, you know he holds a special place in his heart for the St. Vrain. Well, over the last year I have been fishing a little stream in the foothills of the Rockies and it is full of what I would call high mountain native Brookies. I have been listening to The Orvis podcast and they have given me lots of tips for fishing small streams. It's my St. Vrain and it's a joy to fish. FlyFishin Fool 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2013 I just got home from the Denver Orvis store and held a Tenkara rod for the first time. I would really like to get one now.
DavidHE 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2013 Nice fish! Seeing those brookies sent my mind racing. I've got 2 Tenkara rods with a third on the big brown truck to be delivered tomorrow. I'm addicted. TenkaraUSA is set to release a couple new rods any day now.
ikerajala 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2013 Yeah I would think that a brookie would be every bodies favorite game fish as far as fly fishing is concerned!
williamhj 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2013 Beautiful fish. I do love brookies. They wouldn't be native brooks but they might be wild which is great. I'll have to do some exploring
Tom Gibbons 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2013 hello FFF. yah you are never in the whole of your life getting over that little stream. they really hook you. I fished from the highway up hill a ways back in July of 80' lots of hoppers, trout everywhere, was great. my home water up till 2010 was Van Campens Brook in Warren Co.,N.J. wild trout 12 month stream , a freakin paradise. I was wondering how that little jewel fared with the recent flood. my sister- in -law lives in Boulder and i'm coming out next spring, then north to Montana again. anyway take special care of those little brook jewels they are so ancient. oh yah,, Gierach.. he lived right acros the highway back then,,who knew? I have all his books in my library. Adios,Tom.
