mikechell 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2014 Sawyers killer bug is pretty darn simple and is, well, a killer. Walt's Worm's are really really simple. But I have to admit, thread body midges are about as simple as it gets... Oh, and the Bivisible... that's pretty darn simple - just palmered hackle on a hook. Will K, In fact, you're the first to mention a dry fly. Nuh huh !!! I mentioned the foam spider days ago !!! Can't get any "drier" than that !!! Fisherboy0301 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2014 What about the yong special! Or is that considered a thread midge too?
utyer 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2014 The Yong Special (from Andy Kim,) is a "thread midge," but a more complex thread midge. The fly is sometimes tied with sewing thread which is spun to "cord" up the thread. The spin would tighten up the twists in the thread, and make a more segmented body. Often this pattern is tied with a fly tying thread to tie in and create an under-body. This thread is also used to tie off the sewing thread, and form the head. The pattern could be tied with just the sewing thread. I use Toldi-lock poly threads from Gutterman. They are thicker, and cord up well. Then just a touch of marker to make the head, so it would then just be a simple thread midge.
essequamvideri 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2014 Th simplest fly that I have cought fish on is the "Maple Syrup"img4ced1a0d17b8e1.jpeg Materials List: Hook: 8 or 10 Thread: Black Tail: yellow calf tail Body: verigated chenille Tan/beige Interesting. Are you fishing for trout with this? Preach, I have had great success with this fly when the heat is up and the fish are down. I find a full sink line, dredging the bottom of ponds they will hammer this fly here in Maine. Michael
