kenmorr 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2016 I'll second the notion of flipping the rod upside down, it doesn't always work but it can be effective

FlatsRoamer 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2016 Not this pattern, didn't have the material until after my weekend keys trip the other weekend. Next time though, you can bet it will be the first fly I tie on
Li'lDave 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2016 Playing with colours looking for something that mimics the combo found on a local favourite hard bodied lure.
coryphaena 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2016 Capt Lemay - thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, my rod does not have a snake guide for the stripping guide. I have to use my line basket. It may have saved the line from getting twisted in the surf. I just can't get used to that basket thing. Another lesson I learned is to avoid excess line out of the reel - must keep it short and just the necessary amount. Li'lDave - Good idea about using a dark colored head.I have also imitated lure colors that have been successful at trolling offshore as well as inshore plugs and jerk baits. kenmorr 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 Cory, I'm not aware of any rods that have a snake for a stripping guide. That being said, when a tangle forms, flip the rod over and shake it. The knot/tangle should tighten up and go out of the rod, it sounds weird but it does work!

mikechell 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2016 Agreeing with the above comments. Great looking baitfish, fshng2. I'd like to see that in the water if you're actually going to swim it.
