Kayak Fishing | Texoma | Burns Run East | Catch and Cook, Too!

Fished this past Saturday on the Oklahoma side of Texoma at Burns East Run. Yours truly struck out but my fishing buddy caught a Striped Bass and a Spotted Bass which was enough to try out a new and simple recipe... no name for it. For now, calling it Burns Run East Fish Recipe!

Learned a few things this trip about the area, fishing regulations, and the lay of the land or better yet, the water! Also, got a good workout paddling from park, to the dam and back again.

Cooking portion is at the end, and is more a snippet of the YouTube Short Video we posted. Regardless, recipe is too simple that a short video explains it all!

Had lots of fun... do checkout the video!

Live Stream | Fly Fishing Arlington | OPST Commando Head on 4 WT Redington

Fished a large pond more like a lake in Arlington, TX yesterday. Hot and humid day but able to get a round of fishing in before making the commute home which included a few rain storms along the way!

OPST Commando Head in 200 grain worked well casting for distance when needed and with ease! Like this micro skagit fly fishing!

Kayak Fishing Lake Lavon | Catch and Cook | Burns Run East Fish Recipe!

Went kayak fishing Saturday morning. Windy and lots of waves but able to maintain position anchoring the kayak and fishing with shad for bait. Lots of missed hook sets but did get one undersized White Bass, a Channel Catfish, and a Blue Catfish. Enough to try the cooking the Catfish using the Burn Run East fish recipe we used to cook fish we caught on Lake Texoma last weekend. Recipe works for Catfish, too!

Lost a Catfish, else no other bites today. Did catch a fish in the cast net when catching Shad for bait. Cool looking fish; not sure what it was...

too bad you didn't get a closer picture.  I can't see it well enough to even take a guess.

Bummer, tried blowing the picture up. Comes out too grainy. Will need to take a pic if I catch one again.

Reposting livestream that crashed on us yesterday. In preparation for a run to the Texas Coast, reviewed fishing regulations... good thing we did!

COAF Field Team Livestream - Updates | Fishing Rod and Reel Setups

Bummer that the King Kat 10' Rods were delayed. Decided to stop at Bass Pro Shops in Garland, and the Team picked up two rods to match the Penn Squall 15's and a Penn Fierce 3 Rod and Reel combo. Here is what we decided to bring to the coast this round!

Fishing Tip | Spider Weight Setup | The Hedgehog

Back from the run to the Texas Coast. Have a lessons learned video in the works about fishing the Galveston Fishing Pier. Stay tuned... this video demos the spider weight setup that our fishing buddy was using when pier fishing in a recent trip to Galveston, Texas. Should work well surf fishing, too! Give it a try next chance you get!

Galveston Fishing Pier | What Fishing Rig Did We Use?

Answering the mail before we continue editing the Galveston Fishing Pier video. This video answers the question, "What fishing rig did we use...?"

We used a two section rig - one made with Weedeater Line and the other with Malin Hard-Wire. The video details how we made them. Of note is at 6:08 in the video, had a typo in the caption... it should read, "Had to use in-line circle hooks and non-stainless steel; offset, stainless steel hooks are not legal for sharks in Texas."

There are other ways to setup for pier fishing, we liked this setup as it was inexpensive, could be modified as needed while on the pier, and worked well for the smaller sharks we were catching. Do suggest using a stronger rig if targeting large sharks.

Materials:
1. Two feet of .095 inch weedeater line
2. Two 2.3mm aluminum crimps
3. One Slider Rig
4. One Barrel Swivel - Coastlock #4 rated at 90 lbs
5. 18 inches of Malin Hard-Wire #9 rated at 108 lbs
6. Circle Hook, Non-Offset 5/0 to 9/0

Tools:
Crimper Tool - Cabelas

Galveston Fishing 2021 | Lessons Learned | Pier Fishing Tips

Had a great time fishing the Texas Coast for three days last week. In particular, we fished the Galveston Fishing Pier located at 91st Street and the Seawall. Every year we like to make the run to Galveston for a chance at a fish or two. This trip did not disappoint; caught a number of small sharks that we caught and released.

Also, every trip we seem to learn a few new things to help us the next round. This trip provided lessons learned that we are sure to use be it a trip to Galveston fishing the piers as well as other Texas piers along the coast.

Do check it out, and let us know if they prove useful on your next trip to the Texas Coast! Should post around 5PM Central today!

Good Luck and Good Fishing!

OPST Commando Head | One Handed Spey | Pond Fly Fishing with the Simple Foam Fly!

Having fun pond fly fishing for Bluegill and Bass with the OPST Commando Head on the Redington 4wt Rod. Caught one fish using a Foam Grasshopper but switched to a larger size Simple Foam Fly.

Lost count of the fish caught, did have several throw the fly on us, but overall was a great morning fishing the local pond!
