fshng84 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2022 TRWD Flyfest Big Trout Contest | Highlights Video It was a fun time last Saturday at the 7th Annual TRWD Flyfest. We have not missed one since the first TRWD Flyfest in 2016! A fly fishing event that offers fly fishing demos, fly tying classes, fly fishing seminars, and fly casting lessons. It also hosts a Big Trout Contest which is a Team favorite. This year we were able post a livestream while we watched contestants compete. Although we missed Heat 4 and the final Fish Off to decided the contest winner, we did enjoy the fast paced action that Heats 1 - 3 provided. We have posted unedited Livestreams on our Channel for reference. For those that would like a highlights version of the contest, do check out the video! Key items to note this round… fly fishing presentation and technique coupled with positioning where the fish are lurking made a difference in numbers of trout caught! fshng84 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2022 Getting a Bass to Strike. Try This! Left the Senkos at home while out and about. Fishing with BFS Gear - Shimano Scorpion 17, Bass Pro Shops Micro Lite Rod, and Rooster Tails. Saw bass cruising the shallows, had several strikes and lots of misses. Did run into a school of little Bass that just did not want to commit to striking the Rooster Tail. Luckily, water was clear and I could see them react to my lure... so, tried this to get them to strike. It worked, except I still need to work on my landing technique! Check out the video! fshng84 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2022 Here is a simple but effective pattern to try... possibly for the first time fly tyer! Uses bead chain eyes and two plumes of marabou. Worked for Bass and Bluegill at the local pond!
fshng84 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2022 Here is a video short of yours truly trying to catch a trout or two after figuring out the pattern. Trout were wanting no retrieve, minimal movement... or a long pull and then hold while the fly sank. Used a Pat's Near Deere, and then a Pat's Rubber Legs. fshng84 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2022 While in New Orleans fished a local park... Louis Armstrong Park with the Tenkara Rod. Looked promising but had to call the trip short when the Park Ranger informed me there was no fishing in the Park. Bummer!

fshng84 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2022 Guadalupe River Tenkara Fishing | Got Sidetracked.. Oops! While on the road a couple weeks ago, stopped in New Braunfels, Texas and fished the Guadalupe River at the River Access Park. Opted for the Tenkara Rod as we were on the road and keeping things light. Worked out well, was able to get a quick trip in! Caught little guys... looked like longear but did get sidetracked when I noticed a lingerie photo shoot was happening downriver. Took a stroll downriver of course to scout the river for fish... wink, wink, wink!
fshng84 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2022 Rooster Tail Works for Bass | Bait Finesse Style BFS fishing the local pond. Started with a popper but switched to a Rooster Tail and had fun catching Bass. Shimano Scorpion 17 BFS-XG reel still rocks with the Bass Pro Shops Microlite Fiberglass rod! fshng84 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2022 When fishing for Bass in heavily pressured ponds, try downsizing. Fish ultralight lures like inline spinners, spoons, and crankbaits. Oftentimes the Bass get used to larger lures and tend to ignore them.

fshng84 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2022 Yesterday, we struck out at Denison Dam but mentioned kayak fishing and juglining as a backup plan. Did well... with Catfish caught. Dinner Shrimp Etouffee over rice and Blackened Catfish! Tasty! Will get a trip video out later this week; do check back!
fshng84 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2022 First Kayak Fishing Trip for 2022 | Jug Lining for Catfish on Lake Lavon Finally made it out to the local lake for kayak fishing. Opted for jug lines and Catfish fishing. Had to make a few modification to the jug lines per the Texas Fishing Regulations. Also, had to read the new rules for Catfish on Lavon. Different compared to past Season! Do check out the video!

mikechell 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2022 I'm pretty sure those Sunfish weren't all "Bluegill". But, looked like a fun few hours bank fishing. Not much of that available here, as there's almost always several feet of pads and grass you have to cast over, and rarely enough room behind to make the back cast. But you've got me itching to go to those few places that do have bank opportunities.
