orly 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2014 So many negative reviews. Is any Whiting hackle good for tying spey flies up to size 4? Thank You.
Piker20 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2014 Whiting and metz have spent years developing hackle for dry flies. Their hen capes will be up there with many others but at a vast inflated price compared to indian or Chinese material. The schlappen feathers are also better sourced from a cheaper place. Many poor reviews stem from an expectation of a product which doesn't always justify the premium price when a cheaper product works as well.
Frank G. Swarner III 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2014 I like it and enjoy tying with it. It is it's own material and not a substitute for other spey hackles. Think of it as a different type of paint brush to paint with.
kimjensen 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2014 I have had a very very bad spey half neck from whiting. It was so bad you wouldn't pay money for it if you knew how bad the fibers were. You have to open the bag and look careful at the feathers. I got help with the next spey neck I bought and it's really nice. Price has actually gone down here in Denmark and I think I'm not the only one who is glad about it.
